Collecting The Keys Later

The hubs will be collecting the keys to our new apartment today!

All the talk and plans about moving out is finally here to stay! No more INCOMPETENT real estate agents to deal with, no more cat-chase-mouse game with the bank OVER A CHEQUE BOOK!
And enough of running around house searching in this desert heat!

We are trying to move in as much boxes/ clothes this weekend, so to avoid wasting 20-25 mins of travelling time and monies (from one district to another).

Another 40% of packing left to do!

Rental Procedures

Okay, here’s the frustrating thing about rental laws in Dubai.

The must to have a current account in order to issue post dated cheques (3/4 times per year)!

If only landlords/ agents here accepts cash or money transfer – the time wasted to open a current account which takes two days- we would have moved into our new place anytime this week!

And IF the bank’s incompetent, our preferred place might end up taken … Eek!

Well… Am praying it’ll all work out fine!

We’re Moving Out Soon!

Last month i wrote the likelihood to house hop soon?

Well… It’s happening as of Wednesday!

In the next 1.5 weeks we’ll be busy searching for a studio/ 1 bedroom apartment for rent with a budget of not more than 46k per/yr. Since it’ll be a temporary lease (1 year max), we’re not looking anything too expensive and fancy for both of us.

A good timing to move out really, as property prices have been dropping (10-30%) since 2009. And it might fall further due to ongoing numerous empty apartments/villas around.

Over here, rentals are usually paid in 2-4 cheques or 1 year in advance, depending on location and property itself.

Woopie! Am SO looking forward to a new place, IKEA shopping together and a kitchen of my own!

If it all goes well, we  hope to move in before 15th Sept. Praying it’ll be a smooth hunt!

It’s Been 31 Months…

While strolling back from dinner yesterday, the husband briefly noticed that we’ve spent -more than- half of our married life elsewhere (Dubai) rather than our home countries!

I remembered months before our wedding, many assumed that i’ll be following my groom back to Australia…
But hula! It turned out to be an adventurous detour! Btw, we’re not avid travellers, so when we somewhat knew our upcoming journey, it was tough needing to leave behind family, friends, foods…

Good thing, my heart hasn’t yearned for the Oz life, yet.

August… Mmm, a soothing month to reflect and be thankful wherever we’re blessed with!

Revamping Scribblelicious Soon

Not sure how soon, but i’m excited to start re-designing my blog -If time permits- before 2011. Other than ‘attending’ HTML & CSS lessons taught by my husband, i’ve practiced bits more by memorizing and testing the codes repeatedly…

You see, I wouldn’t want to cling onto my hubs (though he’s ever ready to assist) too much over a simple HTML dilemma, and learning on my own would do wonders for a beginner like me!

So here’s hoping that i’ll reach intermediate level by October.

Dubai EatOuts #150: NOODLE HOUSE

If you’re not too fussed about authentic chinese sauces, dishes or cooking style… The NOODLE HOUSE fairly satisfy your Asian urges. Though i find their foods dull, hubs and i are still regulars simply because it’s a 10 mins walk from our residence.

We found a table at the corner and noticed their new menus, improvised dishes replacing the old. Hubs tried their Chicken Rice and  I chose the usual Duck Noodle Soup.

The generous stuffing in the wantons were the only difference, the rest was just average (noticed the dry duck pieces?).
Including 2 refreshing drinks our bill came to about Dhs140. And yes, I considered it expensive too!

But wait…

They NOW SERVE CRABS??! Woot!

Mmm, can’t wait to try it out soon!

Dubai EatOuts #149: MORE Cafe

Here we are again enjoying their breakfast menu on a humid weekend!

For a change, i ordered the MORE Eggs Benedict (Toasted buns, sauteed spinach, poached eggs, hollandiase sauce, smoked salmon, dollop of labneh and chives)

I’m not a big fan of poached eggs, but for those who love the sight and taste of oozy yokes, this is the cafe for a flawless recipe.

You might have had better Eggs Benedict elsewhere, but the smiley bun indicates I ate happy.

Brainfried and Dull

That was my week, really…

Work was same-old, summer grew fiery, snoozy people everywhere, muffled streets (Due to upcoming Ramadan) and my edgy mood for some reason i do not know… Yet.

Here’s hoping for a better chirpy day tomorrow!

The Suburban Life… Maybe

Been daydreaming about our permanent home… In a friendly and mellow town, surrounded by fresh greeneries and melodious chirps by our windows…
Funny, but gone are the days where I yearned for the city life. Not sure why, but mayhaps my mature braincells are dropping me hints to pause, reflect and spend quality ‘me time’, which i’ve silently craved.

Sudden thoughts of living the subtle life inspired me to search for residences away from the typical materialistic lifestyle, though i have no exposure living the suburban way, i’m thinking go ahead, and who knows, i might enjoy the simplicity of it all.

The house hunt will begin as of Dec 2010. Exciting!

There Goes My Blackberry

The local technology news today, wrote about suspending Blackberry messenger, web browsing and any other social-related applications. And maybe including my all time favourite instant tap-to-load Twitter and Facebook applications too!

Click here and here to read more about it.

IMO, i don’t see it as much of a threat, it’s about monitoring our text messages, email outputs and chats they insist on.
Many users i know is grumpy about this regulation, and the fact that (more than) half of Dubai’s population owns a Blackberry (including local businessmen, wives, professionals), so it won’t be easy convincing existing users about their new temporary solution.

Here’s hoping they’ll change their minds about it.

Thankfully i bought the cheapest Blackberry available, isn’t much of a pinch really, BUT THE THOUGHT of no longer chatting with friends and family (for free) is driving me nuts.

My question to them is, why introduce Blackberry into UAE’s market when it doesn’t meet your security requirements??

End of rant!

*whispers* Hmm, a valid excuse to buy a new phone?
